AFCI breakers are Arc Fault Circuit Interrupter breakers that are installed in an electrical panel. These breakers are designed to trip when they detect loose or arcing wires that are connected to outlets or light fixtures.
These breakers are now required in new construction on circuits to bedrooms, smoke alarms, hallways, playrooms and living rooms. They are not required in bathrooms, kitchens, garages or outdoor outlets.
