Handling Tree Limbs Close to Your Roof

Handling Tree Limbs Close to Your RoofOften times, the tree limbs surrounding your home that hang over your roof can pose as a threat.

Tree limbs hovering above your roof can provide rodents with easy access into your attic making it easy for them to create issues.

Rodents might be small but they can result in major issues for your home and your health if they get in. Rodents, specifically rats and squirrels, can chew on broken wooden trim and seek shelter in the attic of your home. If rodents go to the bathroom in your attic, or nest and chew into air ducts, your air supply could become contaminated.

If you are attempting to sell your home, you should be sure that you don’t have rodent issues as a result of broken roofing.

Look for Sounds

Most rodents are active at night, and if you do have rodents in your home, you will likely hear them before you see them. If you hear odd sounds coming from your attic, such as scratching, you might have a rodent problem inside of it. If you do hear odd noises, do your best to investigate. Inspect the roof and look for any holes that rodents could’ve used to get in. To get rid of them you can set traps or call a professional.

Trim the Trees

In order to avoid rodent issues, make sure to focus on the tree limb proximity to the shingles on your home. Rodents can easily use limbs to get onto the roof of your home and chew into the attic. You should be trimming back limbs at least 6 feet away from the roof to help prevent this from happening. If a limb does fall onto your home, remove it as quickly as possible.

Unsure if you have rodents in your attic? Spread some talcum powder along your attic walls and check the next morning to see if it has been disturbed. Leave traps where you think the rodent might be located. Secure air conditioning ducts by properly sealing them to prevent rodents from getting in. Many rodents love to nest in ducts, and if they do, the air circulating through your home can become highly contaminated.
