So many people buy a house and just move in, fill the fridge with their favorites and put up the big screen TV. The reality of owning a house is like owning a car where you need to check the tires and change the oil. With a house there are generally some things that should be checked, like the proper water drainage around the house to channel water away from the foundation, re-caulk around the windows wood trim to help prevent water damage to the wood trim. Other things to look at is the weather stripping around the doors to help keep out the water and the bugs. Keep a clean house so you don’t attract bugs. Look under the sinks for water leaks. Look at the roof after big storms for broken shingles. Keep the siding and trim properly painted. Just a little work here and there and you can take care of your home, just like your favorite car.
